Find out about Floodline
28 July 2010
Visit Morrisons' car park in King's Lynn on Thursday 29 July
People in King's Lynn are being urged to find out what action they can take to protect themselves, their families, homes, pets and businesses from flooding.
The Environment Agency Floodline trailer will be in Morrisons' car park in the town centre on 29 July from 10am to 3pm, so people who live and work there can find out about flood risk in the area.
Environment Agency staff will be on hand to check people's postcodes and offer advice on flood risk. The event will also provide an opportunity for the public to find out more about the Environment Agency's Floodline Warnings Direct (FWD) service. FWD is a free service that sends flood warnings by mobile, email, text message and fax as well as by landline.
Environment Agency officer Shirley Howells said: ‘Floodline Warnings Direct can provide people with a warning that flooding is expected in their area before it happens. Being aware in advance that they are in danger of flooding gives people vital time to prepare.'
‘The event we are hosting in King's Lynn will give people the chance to find out more about the flood warning services we offer. We hope as many people as possible will take this opportunity to find out what they can do to help themselves during a flood - it can save time, money and even lives.'
People can sign up for Floodline Warnings Direct by calling Floodline on 0845 988 1188 or by visiting the Environment Agency website.
The roadshow is being held in partnership with the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk and Water Management Alliance.
